Workshop Update - February 2022

February has seen lots of work around the yard. Work has been focussed around getting locomotives and rolling-stock ready to begin track work on the first section of the Derwent Valley Line at New Norfolk later this year.

Things are moving along, quite literally around the yard! Both U5 and EBR21 saw movement on the rails this month. 21 has been in the workshop having her transmission troubles investigated. While in the shop it received a thorough coat of paint by one of our youngest volunteers Tom.

Tom based the livery on the colour scheme 21 was painted in whilst still in mainline service with the Emu Bay Railway on the North West Coast. This work will ensure the locomotive is preserved until such a time as it can receive a full restoration.

Plus, we begun the important task of re-qualifying previously operational staff including shunters and locomotive crew. Soon we’ll be training new volunteers in these skills, so now is a great time to get involved.

If you would like to help the railway achieve its goals but you’re unable to volunteer, you can make a tax deductible donation at dvr.org.au/donate
